Dylastra/Dykstra/Dexter Lineage

The Dykstra's (American version of name changed to Dexter) immigrated from Groingen, Netherlands

to the US in 1881 to the New York City port aboard the "Stella". There isn't a clear record of them until 1898 when they used the Homestead Act to acquire land in Carrington,Pleasant Valley Township, North Dakota.

The 1900, 12th Census, Foster County, N.D. Lines 24-30 show: Henry Dexter (spelled Dexler here) occupation- Farmer, Wife; Alice, Children; Matilda, Frances, Elizabeth, Henry, and Bessie. This census lists Henry and Alice as having 13 children with 8 living.

BLM Land Records show that son Henry Dexter received 160 acres in 1906 at age 18 yrs. listed as Sec.28, NW, Foster County, N.D. I don't have proof if the homestead changed hands from father to son or if this is a different property.

Alice passed away in 1909 and the homestead was sold in 1912 for $1.00. John Henry (father) returned to Amsterdam, re-married and moved back to the US in 1917. Henry the son is listed as living in Indiana by 1936 when he applied for a Social Security card.

There are records of several other Dexter's acquiring land in N.D. but I have no proof yet of ancestry.
